I was reminded Saturday, September 12, 2009, that people take seriously the self-evident truths of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And respect. Regardless of how many gathered in the Nation’s Capitol (estimates range from 60,000 to over a million) the power of the people lay not in numbers but what was left in their wake: Nothing.
No overturned burned automobiles. No flaming trash cans. No tons of garbage strewn over the Mall. No smashed windows and broken glass. No stressing Hospital Emergency Rooms.
Whatever their reason, these people left the area tidy. To me that says a great deal about their intent. A totally American expression and petition for redress. Not everybody can do that. We can. That’s what makes We, the People, We, the People.
